How the game works

The wheels roll a multiplication, say 4 × 5, and the child pops that rectangle out of a sheet of bubble wrap: four bubbles across, five rows down. The rectangle is the multiplication — the same array model used in school — so the answer is discovered by building it, not by guessing at a quiz. After six rounds comes a short recall test, and passing it unlocks the next level and a new reward for the cat.

Common questions

How do I get into the grown-ups area?

Tap Parents at the top of the title screen. You will be shown a number written in words and asked to type it in digits. Children learning their times tables are not expected to read it, so it keeps the grown-up settings, the progress report and the link to our books out of small hands.

Can more than one child use the app?

Yes. In the grown-ups area, open Players and add a profile for each child. Every profile keeps its own cat, its own rewards and its own progress, and you can switch between them at any time.

What is the difference between Kitty Easy and Tiger Mode?

Kitty Easy starts with the smaller tables and shows helpers: counting numbers along the edges of the sheet, and a glowing outline of the rectangle to aim for. The range of tables widens as your child passes tests.

Tiger Mode uses the full 2–10 range from the start and takes the helpers away, so your child has to count the rows and columns without support. It is the mode to move to once the idea has clicked.

My child keeps missing the same tables. Can they practise just those?

Yes — tap Practice on the title screen. You can drill a single table from ×1 to ×10, choose All mixed, or choose Needs practice, which picks out the facts your child has actually been getting wrong.

How do I see how my child is doing?

In the grown-ups area you will find a progress report: facts solved, tests passed, accuracy, time played, and a colour map of the whole times table showing what is mastered, what is being practised and what has not been tried yet. Copy puts the summary on your clipboard; Send report passes it to your own email or sharing app — handy for a teacher or tutor.

Does it need the internet? Does it collect data?

The app works fully offline and collects nothing at all — no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no trackers. Your child's nickname and progress stay on your device. See our privacy policy for the detail.

Can I turn on a daily reminder?

Yes, in the grown-ups area under Reminders. Your device schedules and shows it; nothing is sent through us. Turn it off in the same place, or in your phone's notification settings.

There is no sound.

Check the music and speaker buttons in the top-right corner of the game, then your device's volume and — on an iPhone — the silent switch on the side. If the voice is quiet but the pops are fine, try a different voice under Voice in the grown-ups area, since it uses the speech voices installed on your device.

How do I erase my child's progress?

Reset progress in the grown-ups area clears the active profile. Deleting a profile under Players removes that child's data. Uninstalling the app removes everything. None of it can be recovered afterwards, because none of it is stored anywhere but your device.

I bought the app and want a refund.

Refunds are handled by the store you bought from, not by us. On iPhone or iPad use reportaproblem.apple.com; on Android use the Google Play order history. If something in the app is broken, do tell us as well — we would rather fix it.

Which devices does it run on?

Recent iPhones and iPads, and Android phones and tablets. It is a small download, works offline, and does not need a fast device. If it will not start on yours, send us the model and the version of iOS or Android and we will look into it.

Found a bug?

Tell us what happened, what you expected instead, and — if you can — which multiplication was on screen, plus your device model and system version. A screenshot helps more than anything. Write to hello@meowtiplication.com.
